Reproduction Paintings

John Martin, 1789-1854, was an English painter famous for large-scale, epic, Biblical paintings of terrible punishment brought down by the prophets of God upon rebelious and unbelieving humanity. However, he also did many landscapes in watercolors. Born in Northumberland, he had a difficult life until 1812 when he exhibited the first of his paintings at the British Royal Academy. Although Martin was appointed historical painter to Princess Charlotte and Prince Leopold in 1817, it wasn't until 1951 at Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle that there was the first one-man exhibition of his work. He started his career as a porcelain and glass painter.
