Frederick Edwin Church, The Heart of the Andes, 1859, oil on canvas, 39.7 x 71.6 in. / 100.7 x 181.8 cm, US$3000

Heart of the Andes is the most renowned, enormous, panoramic, blockbuster painting of Frederic Church. In 1862, it took England's greatest copyist, William Forrest, THREE YEARS to create a likeness of this painting.

This monumental, idealised, immersive, scientifically-accurate, Ecuadorean rainforest landscape is so detailed that opera glasses are needed to satisfactorily view it. Church sold it for the highest price ever paid for artwork by a living American artist.

Accurately reproducing this painting is a gruelling, challenging task that requires a tremendous amount of time from an extremely experienced and technically-gifted master artist.

Reproduction painting quality improves on a parabolic curve. During 96% of the creative process, all reproductions are very unimpressive. Photographing them during that period is an injustice to the painter and gives the customer no clue about the quality of the finished work. If you commission this painting, do not ask for photos of work in process. And please refrain from pressuring the artist to finish it in 10-15% of the time it took Forrest.
